Gamecock Women’s Swimming & Diving Posts Nation’s Top GPA

South Carolina GamecocksCOLUMBIA, S.C. Feb. 23, 2012 The South Carolina women’s swimming and diving team has earned College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Team honors after posting the top GPA in the nation with a 3.62 in the fall. The Carolina men also received the honor with the 10th-best GPA in the country with a 3.32.

“As proud as I am of everyone’s accomplishments in the pool, the Scholar All-America Team honor makes me prouder of anything that we’ve done,” South Carolina head coach McGee Moody said. “Our student-athletes are very well rounded and have a drive to lead in the pool and in the classroom.”

The Gamecock women had the highest GPA out of 165 teams that received the honor, while the men finished 10th out of 72 teams.

The Scholar All-America Team award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams that have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented to teams achieving this standard in the fall semester and in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

The CSCAA is the oldest coaches organization in America. In addition to Scholar All-American Awards, the CSCAA recognizes All-American Swimmers and Divers at the national championships every year.
