Cougars 11th After Second Day Of Play At Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic

College of Charleston Cougars - CofCKIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The College of Charleston women’s golf team improved its second-round score by eight strokes and stand in 11th after the second day of tournament play at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic held on Monday at the Oak Point Golf Course.

The Cougars were tied for 10th after the first round with a 313 (+25) and had six combined birdies to pencil-in a second-round 305 on their scorecard. They were led by a 3-over par second-round performance by junior Kathy Boehm (Munich, Germany), who sits in a tie for 11th at +5.

It marked the second-straight day in which Boehm turned in the lowest round by a CofC player, other than a second-round 72 by junior Ainhoa Nogales (Madrid, Spain) and a second-round 74 by sophomore C.C. Buford (San Antonio, Texas), who are both competing as individuals. Nogales also sits in a tie for 11th with Boehm.

“We are playing well tee-to-green, but we have to make our putts,” CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. “We are playing well enough to be right up there in the tournament, but we are not taking advantage of the way we are hitting the ball. The weather was much better today and the course was here for the taking. We just have to figure out a way to make putts and we will do fine.”

Augusta State leads the 33-team field tournament, the nation’s largest of its kind, with a 6-over par 582 followed by Elon (+23) and a two-way tie for third between Campbell (+28) and UNCG (+28). Individually, Daytona State College’s Erin Selfridge and UNCG’s Fanny Cnops are on top of the leaderboard with a 1-under 143.

Tournament play concludes tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. (ET).
