Lady Pirates Blanked By College Of Charleston In Regular Season Finale

College of Charleston Cougars - CofCMOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. April 14, 2012 - The College of Charleston, ranked No. 71 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Poll, swept six singles matches in straight sets and secured the doubles point during a 7-0 non-conference victory over East Carolina at the CofC Tennis Center Saturday morning.

The Cougars (22-5) clinched the opening tally by virtue of 8-0 and 8-2 victories in the No. 3 and No. 1 positions, respectively. East Carolina’s Dana Gray and Neena Wanko posted the highest Lady Pirate scoring total before suffering an 8-3 defeat in a No. 2 match to Jenny Falcone and Kelly Kambourelis.

Winners of 18 of its last 19 matches, the College of Charleston dropped just 26 combined games in 12 sets during singles action. Junior Danielle Terpko enjoyed the ECU’s earliest success before falling to Samantha Maddox 7-5, 6-1 in a No. 4 matchup, while Yilian Zhang also captured six games in a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Falcone in a meeting of No. 5 players.

East Carolina (9-15) will now prepare for the Conference USA Championship Tournament, which begins Thursday, April 19 in Memphis, Tenn.
