Miguel Paul Voted Preseason First-Team All-Conference USA

Paul led the league in assists as a junior and is the league’s second leading returning scorer

IRVING, Texas Oct. 4, 2012 – East Carolina senior guard Miguel Paul has been named to the Preseason All-Conference USA First-Team as voted upon by the league’s 12 head coaches. Paul was an all-conference second-team performer last season.

As junior, Paul led the league in assists with 5.9 assists per game and ranked fifth in scoring (15.2 ppg). He also ranked among the top-10 in the conference in free throw percentage (9th, .767), steals (8th, 1.3), 3-point field goal percentage (7th, .362), 3-point field goals (4th, 2.2) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2nd, 2.1). Paul was one of 19 Division I players to lead his team in scoring, assists and steals during the 2011-12 campaign.

The Winter Haven, Fla. native saved his best performances of the 2011-12 season for March.He scored a career-high 28 points against NCAA Tournament participant Southern Miss in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Championship and dished out a career-best 12 assists to set the tournament’s single-game record.

He is the second leading returning scorer in Conference USA this season behind Marshall’s DeAndre Kane (16.5 ppg), who was also a preseason first-team all-conference selection.

Joining Paul and Kane on the first-team were Memphis’ Tarik Black, Tulane’s Ricky Tarrant and C-USA Preseason Player-of-the-Year Keith Clanton of UCF.

The preseason all-conference second-team is comprised of Memphis’ Chris Crawford, Joe Jackson and Adonis Thomas along with Marshall’s Dennis Tinnon and Southern Miss’ Neil Watson.

Tulsa will serve as host city for the 2012 Conference USA Basketball Championship, March 13-16 at BOK Center. The championship game is slated for Saturday, March 16 at 11:30 a.m. EST on CBS.
