Charleston Leads Combined Scores After Two Days At Wingate

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – College of Charleston finished the second day of the Wingate Fall Frenzy with the top position in the combined team scores.

The CofC men will look to make a final push for their consecutive title as they begin Sunday trailing Queens University of Charlotte, 645-556.5. The women are in third place after two days with 572.5 points, trailing Georgia Southern (594) and Gardner-Webb (576).

David Sherrier continued his strong weekend by placing second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.82. He also swam the anchor leg of the 800 freestyle relay, joining with Alex Wood, Jake Gregory and Josh Shaffer to place third with a time of 6:54.98.

Pablo Ortiz picked up points in the 400 IM with a fifth-place finish (4:08.58). Chris Verboncoeur also earned a fifth-place finish, swimming a time of 50.81 in the 100 butterfly. Jackson Marine touched the wall in 51.29 to place fifth in the 100 backstroke, with Mike McCarthy immediately behind him in 51.97.

Sarah Boyle won the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.47 and Madison Tarleton also scored points in the event with a seventh-place finish (59.38). Tarleton also finished seventh in the 400 IM with a time of 4:38.50.

The Cougars took three of the top four spots in the 100 butterfly with Boyle placing second (56.09), Jayme Groth finishing third (57.15) and Gracie Herlong placing fourth (57.35).

College of Charleston placed third in the 800 freestyle relay as Boyle, Annie Berdusco, Mary Frances Babrowicz and Meredith Smith combining for a time of 7:46.09.

In the diving events, Peter Gibbons took another title in the one-meter dive (260.15) and Megan Norton placed fourth in the three-meter dive (211.10).

The final day of competition will be today from Wingate.
