Pirates Earn Ninth-Straight NSCAA Team Academic Award
GREENVILLE, N.C. Nov. 19, 2012 – The East Carolina soccer team was one of 504 women’s programs to earn the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic calendar year. The Pirates posted a 3.34 grade point average and received the award for the ninth-straight year, 12th in the last 14.
The NSCAA honors any team with above a 3.0 GPA, with 726 squads (222 men, 504 women) among all NCAA divisions receiving recognition for last year’s academic performance.
East Carolina joined by Colorado College (3.41), Marshall (3.47), Memphis (3.47), Rice (3.36), SMU (3.31), Southern Miss (3.35), Tulsa (3.18), UCF (3.12) and UTEP (3.12).
The NSCAA Team Academic Award, which was instituted in 1996, marks the 12th time the Pirates have been honored for their academic excellence.
