Holiday Train Expo Annual Tradition to Continue at Independence Mall

2012 Train Expo - Cape Fear Model Railroad SocietyWilmington, NC – The Cape Fear Model Railroad Society has announced that Independence Mall will set the stage for this year’s Holiday Train Expo 2012. Taking place Fridays and Saturdays from November 23rd through December 22nd, the event will showcase a series of spectacular holiday villages filled with model trains of all kinds running the rails across a large exhibit space.

Originating during the Christmas season at Airlie Gardens, the memorable showcase of model trains and elaborate scenery still draws families, train enthusiasts and holiday-goers from around the region each year.

Visitors will be enchanted by this spectacular display of model trains as they travel across eight miles of scale track through a wonderland of villages, parks and landscapes. In addition to the O Gauge and G Scale (garden railroad) exhibits of the past, this year’s exhibition includes a newly designed HO Scale layout with a water feature and boats, a pre-World War II train, a special Christmas Village and an interactive village that will mesmerize children and adults alike.

“All of the model trains, buildings and scenery is supplied by our members,” said Farrell Teague, president of the Cape Fear Railroad Society. “We’ve already started putting the exhibit together. It takes hundreds of man-hours to pull a show like this off, but it’s our passion and we love being able to share it with so many people during the Christmas season.”

The Cape Fear Model Railroad Society will also be raffling off three model train sets at the show, just in time for Christmas — a HO Scale, an O Scale and a G Scale train set. People can buy raffle tickets for $1 each or 6 for $5.

Thousands of people are expected to take in the train expo over its five week run.
Starting the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 23rd, the Holiday Train Expo will be open to the public on Fridays from 6 PM – 9 PM and Saturdays from 2 PM – 5 PM, running through the weekend before Christmas.

Admission is just $3 and $2 for children ages 3 to 12. Children under the age of 3 admitted free. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Cape Fear Railroad Society.
