Onslow County Cooperative Extension Offers “Pesticide Disposal Day”

Onslow County North CarolinaOnslow County – As fall approaches, gardeners often use this time of year to put away tools, clean up planting beds, and dispose of materials that they no longer need. With that in mind, the Onslow County Cooperative Extension Office is partnering with the N.C. Department of Agriculture for Pesticide Disposal Day, Saturday, November 27 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. The event will be held at the Onslow County Multipurpose Complex located at 4024 Richlands Highway in Jacksonville. Farmers, gardeners, and homeowners are welcome to bring in any unwanted, out-of-date pesticides to the event for proper disposal at NO cost. “No matter the scale with which we use pesticides, from a large farming operation to a home garden, we should all practice proper disposal of old, unwanted insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides,” says Melissa Huffman, Field Crops Agent with the Onslow County Cooperative Extension Office. “This program offers a safe and free option for citizens to dispose of these pesticides.” For additional information please contact Melissa Huffman, Cooperative Extension Agent – Field Crops at 910-455-5873.
