CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston volleyball team and the Cougar Club invite CofC supporters and fans to come together as the Cougars learn their destination for the 2012 NCAA Volleyball tournament.
The watch party will take place at Kickin’ Chicken on King St. at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. ESPNU’s Volleyball Selection Show will begin at 4 p.m.
College of Charleston earned an automatic bid to this year’s tournament by defeating Furman in a five-set thriller in the title match of the Southern Conference Tournament in Davidson, N.C. on Monday night.
Sophomore Sloane White was named Tournament MVP after she finished the three matches with 51 kills and a .453 attacking percentage. Senior Emily Shelton tallied 71 digs in three matches to earn All-Tournament honors, and junior Taeler Davis also made the All-Tournament team after averaging 13.46 assists per set. Penn State transfer Darcy Dorton led the team with 52 kills and 32 digs.
College of Charleston will be making its seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament, more than any other SoCon program. With the 2012 title, the Cougars have now won 12 straight regular season or conference tournament championships, the second-longest streak in the nation.
CofC’s last trip to the NCAA Tournament came in 2009 when the Cougars fell to Florida in three sets.
