Charlotte, NC – In the past few weeks I’ve used the fantasy outlook section to take a look at some players on the Cats and their opponents who might not be what most owners would call fantasy studs, but could be key pieces to earning you a victory from week to week. Now let us take a look at two players who should be on someone’s roster in any fantasy league and are peaking right now.
Ben Gordon has been on an absolute tear for the Bobcats as of late. He set a franchise high with eight 3-pointers, including a franchise-best seven treys in the second half and scored a game-high 29 points in Charlotte’s loss to Portland on Monday. It was the second time in less than a week Gordon set the franchise mark for 3-pointers in a half after breaking the previous record with six treys in Atlanta last Wednesday. Over the last five games, Gordon has scored at least 19 points in every contest and is averaging 20.4 points while going 23-for-36 (63.9 percent) from long range. But Gordon isn’t just a scorer. He’s also dished out 3.2 assists and grabbed 2.8 rebounds over that span. It’s a shame if Gordon is available in any of your leagues, but if he is, grab him now.
You probably don’t need me to tell you this, but Carmelo Anthony is playing at an MVP level in both fantasy and reality for the Knicks this season. He currently ranks second on the NBA with 26.6 points – his highest scoring average since 2009-10 in Denver (28.2 points). He’s also shooting better from the field (46.4 percent) than he has since 2007-08 with the Nuggets (49.2 percent) and is connecting on a career-best 43.5 percent (37-for-85) from beyond the arc. Like Gordon, Melo isn’t just a scorer. He’s second on the team in rebounds (6.9), including 2.1 offensive boards, and is handing out 2.1 assists as well. Melo’s consistency has been a huge part of the Knicks 12-4 start, and he probably has your fantasy squad off to a fast start as well.
