MICHAEL KIDD-GILCHRIST NAMED EASTERN CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
December 5, 2012 – Bobcats forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist today was selected by the NBA as the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for November.
Kidd-Gilchrist started all 15 games in the month, averaging 10.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.2 steals in 27.3 minutes played. He ranked second among rookies in both rebounding and blocks, fourth in steals, fifth in scoring, sixth in minutes and eighth in assists, making him the only rookie to rank in the top 10 in all six categories. Kidd-Gilchrist was also the only rookie to average at least 1.0 assist, 1.0 steal and 1.0 block, the only rookie to record a five-steal game (Nov. 3 at Dallas) and one of only five rookies to have at least four blocked shots in a game (Nov. 23 vs. Atlanta).
In the Nov. 10 win over the Mavericks, which was his fifth career NBA game and Charlotte’s first-ever win over Dallas, Kidd-Gilchrist tallied career highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds, becoming the second-youngest player in NBA history to record those numbers in a game and one of only seven players ever to do so prior to their 20th birthday.
Kidd-Gilchrist scored in double figures in five consecutive games from Nov. 17-24, making him one of only four rookies to post a double-figure scoring streak of at least five games. He was also one of only eight rookies to start at least 10 games in the season’s opening month.
Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard earned the Western Conference honor.
