CofC Cougars Kick Off Spring Season at No. 43 Virginia Tech

CHARLESTON, SC – The College of Charleston men’s tennis team will kick off its spring season this weekend at No. 43-ranked Virginia Tech on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. (ET) at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.

Cougars Men's Tennis

The Cougars (0-0) return to the court after a break from play since early November, where they had a strong showing at the home-hosted Charleston Challenge.

This will be the first meeting between the two schools since Feb. 13, 2009, when CofC was swept by Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. The Hokies (0-0) will present a tough and competitive challenge which will give the Cougars an opportunity to jumpstart their spring season and gear up for conference play later in the year.

“Getting back to Virginia Tech is special to me, because of all of the great memories and people that were part of my career there,” CofC Head Coach and Virginia Tech alumnus (‘01) Jay Bruner said. “I am excited that the team has the chance to see such a high level of play to begin the season. We have been working hard all fall and are coming together as a team already. It will be good to see the spirit we bring to this type of match on their home courts. Coach (Jim) Thompson has a young class that had great results this fall. We will need to play some of our best tennis to be in the match with them.”

After their match with the Hokies, the Cougars will have a week-long break from competition, before traveling to North Carolina for a doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 26 with Catawba College at 10 a.m. (ET) and Belmont Abbey at 2:30 p.m. (ET).
