Right-Hander Posted A 14-4 Record With A 2.97 ERA In 2012
GREENVILLE, NC Jan. 29, 2013 - Former East Carolina All-American Seth Maness will get his first taste of big league Spring Training when the St. Louis Cardinals open camp on Feb. 11 in Jupiter, Fla.
The Cardinals on Monday announced that Maness is among 16 non-roster invitees who will be attending Spring Training.
Maness, who was named the Cardinals’ Minor League Pitcher-of-the-Year in December, posted a 14-4 record with a 2.97 ERA in 27 starts and led the farm system with 169.2 innings pitched – also ranking sixth in all of Minor League Baseball.
An 11th-round selection in 2011, Maness started the season at Palm Beach (High A) before quickly ascending to Springfield (Double A) and was a key contributor to the Cardinals post-season championship run.
Despite his promotion on May 21, Maness still accumulated totals to rank third in the Texas League in ERA (3.27), second in wins (11) and led the league with a 1.06 WHIP (walks+hits/innings pitched).
Cardinals’ pitchers and catchers report to Jupiter, Fla. on Monday, Feb. 11 and hold their first workout on Tuesday, Feb. 12. The Cardinals full squad reports on Thursday, Feb. 14 and conducts its first workout on Friday, Feb. 15, followed by their opening Grapefruit League contest on Saturday, Feb. 23 against the Miami Marlins.
