Charleston, SC Feb. 20, 2013 – Over 800 high school students from across the Southeast are expected to take part in the 35th annual College of Charleston Math Meet on February 23, 2013.

The event, sponsored by the College of Charleston Math Department, brings talented high school students to the campus for innovative and exciting mathematical competitions. The event also helps high school teachers throughout the Southeast region to motivate their students to excel, and to recognize the role of math outside the classroom.

“We try to make the competition entertaining and innovative,” says Alex Kasman, Professor of Mathematics at the College of Charleston. “For example, some of the competitions will be ‘game show style’, some are the mathematical equivalent of a relay race, and some require a lot of creativity as well as computational ability.”

Winners will receive prizes including trophies, plaques, scholarships, cash awards, books and more, but most importantly they will receive recognition and a sense of accomplishment.

Most of the competition will be held in Maybank Hall on the College of Charleston campus.
