16th Annual Priceless Pieces Quilt Show at Roanoke Island Festival Park

MANTEO, NC Feb. 22, 2013 – The 16th Annual Priceless Pieces Quilt Show opens March 1 with a reception from 6-8 p.m. in the Art Gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Antique and new quilts will be on display through March 23. The collection is drawn from quilt makers or quilt owners attached to the Eastern North Carolina region. The show and reception are free and open to the public. The public also has the opportunity to chat with the sponsors of the show, the Teacup Quilters, as they gallery-sit. The hours of the show are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The exhibition features full-sized and mini quilts.  Past shows have seen   examples of quilts ranging in date from the 19th to the 21st century.  Traditional patterns are used on many quilts. Viewers will witness a range of themes and techniques including quilting, embroidery and appliqué.

A special quilt has been created by the Teacup Quilters in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Christening and Launching of the Elizabeth II. The 16th Century representative sailing ship will be 30 years old on Friday, November 22, 2013. The quilt is included in the exhibition.

Each year the Teacup Quilters handcraft a quilt to raffle at the end of the exhibition. The quilt this year is titled “Labyrinth.” Tickets will be available at the show and are $1 each or $5 for six.

The Teacup Quilters are also sponsoring several additional events for quilt enthusiasts  Vendor Day is on Saturday, March 9   from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors will be on site to sell fabrics, supplies and finished products. A Flea Market  will be held on Tuesday, March 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. Hatteras and Teacup Quilters will be available to sell, trade and give away quilting supplies and fabrics. There will also be a scissor sharpener from Ace Hardware. Following the Flea Market, a Trunk Show will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30. All quilters are invited to display their work and share the quilt’s story. Light refreshments will be available during the Trunk Show.
