Spinning debuts in Surf City

INDOOR CYCLING COMES TO SURF CITY

SURF CITY, NC Feb. 25, 2013 – Indoor Cycling has arrived at Surf City Community Center. Starting March 1, a series of weekly classes will be offered on newly purchased Spin bikes. Surf City Parks & Recreation is also aligning with Mad Dogg Athletics, Inc. and its Spinning brand to make the Center a certified Spinning facility. All instructors are either currently Spinning certified or in the process of completing requirements.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this tremendous aerobics activity,” says Surf City Parks & Recreation Director Kristie Grubb. “We have had many requests for Spinning classes and I am excited that we will finally be able to offer them.”

Instructor Linda Carlsen will immediately integrate indoor cycling into her 6 am boot camp on Tuesdays and Thursday morning and on will rename it Cycling/Boot Camp when the next 8-week session renews on March 12. She will also teach a Monday 8:30 am cycle class in conjunction with a strength and conditioning component.

Instructor Leigh Powell, who recently attended a comprehensive Spinning Orientation, will teach Tuesday and Thursday classes at 5:30 pm and a Friday 6:00 pm session as the Community Center formally extends its hours to 8 pm on Fridays. She will kick off the regular Spinning schedule this Friday night, March 1.

Athletics Supervisor Steve Unger is an experienced Spinning Instructor and will initially teach the Wednesday 8:30 am class. He will also offer Spin/Yoga on a special event basis. As a special bonus, he will offer a free bonus class on Wednesday, February 27 at 8:30 am.

The cost for any cycle class on or after March 1 is only $5 to Community Center Members; visitors also pay an additional $5 fee. Because of the limited number of bikes, participants are urged to sign up in advance any time the week of a class. Bikes will only be reserved until class starts. Call 910-328-4887 for info.
