Three-Match Spring Break Road Swing Ahead for Cougars

CHARLESTON, SC Feb. 28, 2013 – The College of Charleston men’s tennis team is set to embark on a three-match spring break road swing through the states of Tennessee, Alabama and Louisiana from March 2-6.

The Cougars (2-3) will kick off their quest to defend their Southern Conference championship title this weekend with league matches at Chattanooga and Samford, before heading down to New Orleans to play Tulane in a mid-week dual match.

CofC will be looking to post another undefeated spring break record after coming away with wins over Florida Atlantic and Xavier during last year’s trip to Boca Raton, Fla.

The College’s first match of the weekend will be played at Chattanooga on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. (ET) at the UTC Tennis Center in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Mocs (5-3) are off to solid start, having beaten non-conference teams in Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State.

After Saturday’s contest, the Cougars will have a quick turnaround to take on last year’s league runner-up Samford on Sunday, March 3 for a 1 p.m. (ET) match at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion in Birmingham, Ala. Samford (4-3) is also off to a good start, claiming a 4-3 win over No. 45-ranked Alabama on Feb. 6.

“Our team is coming together after only five matches,” CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. “The matches this weekend will test us to play two matches in a row and to play against a veteran team in Chattanooga. Facing Samford is always a battle as we’ve met them in the finals of the SoCon tournament the last two years. I’m excited to get back on the court, because we are getting stronger each time we take the court as a team.”

Following this weekend’s matches, CofC will only have two days off, before traveling south to tackle Tulane on Wednesday, March 6 at 1 p.m. (ET) at the Goldring Tennis Center in New Orleans, La.
