In Saturday’s win, the Seahawks took the doubles point and then swept all six singles matches for the dominating win.
Freshman Santu Leskinen picked up his first collegiate victory as the Seahawks got off to a strong start in doubles. Leskinen paired with sophomore Kaue Pereira for an 8-1 thumping of Nicky Kunz and Connor Evins at the No. 3 position. UNCW’s top tandem of Kosta Blank and Chris Cooprider, ranked 15th nationally, then dispatched Chris Mark and Kevin Moore, 8-2, at the top of the lineup to clinch the early point.

The Seahawks increased the lead to 2-0 when Pereira raced past Robert Lightbourn, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 singles. Junior Pedro Mol made the score 3-0 by dismantling Alex Howard, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 6 slot. UNCW nailed down the victory at No. 2 singles when Sam Williams trimmed Joe Schafer, 6-3, 6-3.

“Davidson is a very good team that had won its previous six matches,” said Mait DuBois, UNCW’s sixth-year coach. “We knew we would need to play well and I was pleased with the focus that we brought on every court.

“We are looking forward to making the most out of our spring break training this week and getting prepared for our next match.”

Coach Mait DuBois and his team return to action next Saturday, March 9, with a visit to Clemson for a Noon match.
