Surf City Needs Soccer Coaches

SURF CITY, NC March 6, 2013 – With over 30 teams expected in Surf City Youth Soccer, more volunteer coaches are needed according to Athletic Supervisor Steve Unger. “We need about a dozen more coaches for teams that have players from ages three to ten,” he says. “It really does not take a soccer superstar to coach a team – just a teen or an adult who can give two to three hours a week to have fun for a good cause.”

All soccer coaches take an online training course and receive information on the game and league philosophy. This Saturday, March 9 the league will hold a pre-season Field Day clinic to finalize teams and introduce coaches.

Under 5 & Under 6 teams will practice at 9 am, Under 8 & Under 10 at 10 am with Under 12 & Under 16 at 11 am. This event is open to the public. The final day for regular registration in the league is also March 9.

“That would be a great opportunity for some new folks to get involved,” Unger adds. Team practices will begin March 11 and league play begins on Saturday, March 16. Those interested in coaching should come to the Field Day and also fill out an application at (scroll down to the bottom of the front page).
