Charleston, SC March 7, 2013 – The new program, for undergraduate students earning a minor or concentration in global logistics and supply chain management, offers students the chance to earn advantage credits through career enrichment, industry experience, academic standing, and student engagement. The credits can then be exchanged for a stipend to participate in a logistics-based study abroad experience to the Port of Rotterdam, Europe’s largest container port in Amsterdam study abroad. The study abroad experience is required for all students in the minor or concentration.

The BMW Logistics Advantage Program will really benefit me as junior because it allows me to develop my leadership skills, exposes me to real-world industry leaders, and gives me a leg up when it comes time to showing my resume to potential employers,” says Robertson Williams, an international business student who is minoring in global logistics and transportation.

Students apply to the Program in the fall semester of their junior year and have a full year to earn the advantage credits before departing on the travel study. The variety of credit opportunities include internships, GPA standing, leadership workshops, resume writing sessions, business etiquette dinners, foreign language proficiency, attendance at career fairs, community service, membership in the Student Port Club, or holding other leadership roles on campus.

“Through their investment in this program, BMW is motivating our students to stand out in the competitive job market,” says Alan T. Shao, dean of the School of Business. “We are especially grateful for the confidence that BMW has in our program and students to support us through their annual giving.”
