The College started well in doubles when the senior duo of Irene Viana (Paris, France) and Olivia McMillan (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) knocked off Dilara Yurtkuran and Stephanie Falcon of UNCG on Court 3.

Senior Christin Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) and sophomore Samantha Maddox (Lexington, Ky.) fended off a comeback attempt from Kayla Gammie and Annette Rios of the Spartans to win 8-6 on Court 2 to clinch the doubles point for the Cougars.

CofC carried the momentum from doubles into singles when freshman Brooke McAmis (Greensboro, N.C.) defeated Alex Whitehead of UNCG 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 3 position.

Junior Kelly Kambourelis (Melbourne, Fla.) followed suit with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Yurtkuran in the No. 2 slot.

Maddox kept it rolling when she topped Falcon of the Spartans 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 line.

Christin Newman’s and sophomore Jenny Falcone’s (Davidson, N.C.) matches both went to tiebreaker third sets, and both players pulled off wins at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively.

McMillan wrapped things up with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Gammie on Court 6.

“I saw a lot of heart from the Cougars today,” CofC Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. “Olivia McMillan did a great job of stepping up in both singles and doubles in place of Katherine (Schofield) after her injury. It was a great performance across the board, some of our players are still banged up with injuries but they came out and played some of the best tennis I’ve seen from them this year against a great Greensboro team. We’ll have a couple much-needed days off this weekend before we prepare for another great SoCon team in Furman on Wednesday.”

The Cougars have about a week to get ready for their match against Southern Conference co-leaders Furman (9-6, 5-0 SoCon) on Wednesday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. (ET) at Patriots Point.
