Chamber Music Wilmington and the Cape Fear Jazz Society Proudly Present Renowned Jazz Pianist Aaron Diehl to Perform Benefit Concert for UNCW Jazz Studies Scholarships
Wilmington, NC April 5, 2013 – Chamber Music Wilmington and the Cape Fear Jazz Society have partnered to host a concert by outstanding jazz pianist Aaron Diehl on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held at UNCW Kenan Auditorium, as a benefit for scholarship for UNCW students in the university’s Jazz Studies Program.
Diehl, 27 and a graduate of Julliard, is the 2011 National Cole Porter Fellow in Jazz of the American Pianists Association, and is hailed by the New York Times as a “Revelation.” He is a protégé of Wynton Marsalis and The Chicago Tribune calls him “the most promising discovery that [Wynton] Marsalis has made since Eric Reed.” He has performed with the Wynton Marsalis Septet, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and The Boston Symphony Orchestra to name a few. He has also been featured on Marian McPartland’s NPR radio show Piano Jazz. His international touring has included major European jazz festivals as well as performances in South America and Asia. He had recorded three albums, the latest of which, Aaron Diehl: The Bespoke Man’s Narrative M, creates new music and new versions of standards with instrumentation copying that of the Modern Jazz Quartet.

Mr. Diehl will be providing master classes and other educational experiences throughout the community including UNCW with the UNCW Jazz Band and Jazz Studies students, Cape Fear Community College and DREAMS.
