NC State Men’s Golf T3 at Irish Creek Collegiate; Choi in 4th

KANNAPOLIS, NC April 6, 2013 – The NC State men’s golf team is tied for third after two rounds of the Irish Creek Collegiate on Saturday at The Club at Irish Creek, a par-71 layout that covers 7,099 yards.

The Wolfpack was tied for seventh after the first 18 holes of the day at 8-over 292, but put together a 4-under 280 in the afternoon, the best 18-hole team score of the day, to finish a long day at 4-over 572.

North Carolina owns a four-shot lead at 1-under 567, followed by Davidson at 571. NC State and UNC Wilmington are tied for third at 572.

No. 5 in the Golfstat Cup rankings, Albin Choi sat in second place after round one with a 3-over 68, but dropped two places on the leader board with an even-par 71 in the afternoon. He will begin Sunday’s finale in fourth at 3-under 139, three shots behind first-day leader Richard Fountain of Davidson who finished at 6-under 136 after a second-round 66.

William Herring is tied for 13th after a 1-over 143 performance. That included a 2-under 69 in the afternoon that featured five birdies on his scorecard.

Mitch Sutton is tied for 27th at 4-over 146 after rounds of 76 and 70. He finished strong with three birdies over his final six holes of the day.

Logan Harrell is one shot behind Sutton and is tied for 33rd, while Carter Page is tied for 51st at 8-over 150.

NC State will tee off Sunday with North Carolina and Davidson in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
