CHARLESTON, SC April 13, 2013 - The College of Charleston women’s golf team will begin play in the 2013 Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship, which will be played Sunday through Tuesday on the Moss Creek Golf Club’s North Course in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
This year will be the fifth straight for the tournament at Moss Creek. The course will play at par-72 and 5,955 yards.
Last year the Cougars finished in third-place with Chattanooga winning the title and UNCG claiming runner-up honors. The Cougars last won the Southern Conference Championship in 2006.
“I think it will be competitive again this year,” CofC head coach Jamie Futrell said. “There are three teams within 10 spots of each other in the rankings. It should be a shootout and it’s always competitive in the Southern Conference.”
The Cougars return two players that competed in the event last year. Senior Vanessa Koechli (Greer, S.C.) finished ninth-place and senior Katharina Boehm (Munich, Germany) finished in a tie for 12th place at the 2012 championship.
Joining Koechli and Boehm in the lineup will be freshmen Louise Olsson (Uddeholm, Sweden), Mary Chandler Bryan (Chapin, S.C.) and Julia Neumann (Berlin, Germany).
The Cougars will tee off from the first hole on Sunday starting at 10:30 a.m. and will be paired with Chattanooga and UNCG.
The winner of the SoCon Championship will earn the league’s automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
The tournament tees off at 8:00 a.m. Sunday and live stats can be found on golfstat.com.
