CofC Women’s Golf Third After First Round of SoCon Championship

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC April 14, 2013 – The four scores the College of Charleston women’s golf team counted all rank in the top-15 in the field as the Cougars are in third-place, eight shots back of the lead after the opening round at the 2013 SoCon Women’s Golf Championship at Moss Creek Golf Club Sunday.

The Cougars shot an opening 17-over par 305 and trail Furman (+14) by three shots and leader Chattanooga (+9) by eight shots. Samford (+24) and Appalachian State (+25) round out the top-five spots on the team leaderboard.

Freshman Louise Olsson (Uddeholm, Sweden) got the Cougars off to a good start with a birdie on the third hole and shot even-par on the front nine. Olsson finished the round with a 3-over 75 and is tied for fifth-place on the individual leaderboard.


Freshman Mary Chandler Bryan (Chapin, S.C.) birdied her first hole on the way to a 4-over 76 and is tied for 11th place in the tournament.


Senior Katharina Boehm (Munich, Germany) and freshman Julia Neumann (Berlin, Germany) each carded round of 77 (+5) and are tied for 15th place on the leaderboard.


“Our final six holes kept us in the tournament,” CofC head coach Jamie Futrell said. “We got off to a solid start then struggled a little in the middle, but fought back well late to get back into the mix.”


The Cougars will tee off tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m. off the first hole and will be paired with Furman and Chattanooga.
