Charlotte Knights Stopped By Durham Bulls 6-2 Wednesday

Durham, NC April 17, 2013 – After a successful six-game homestand ended on Tuesday, the Charlotte Knights hit the road on Wednesday to take on a familiar foe.

In game one of a two-game series from the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the Durham Bulls scored six runs on 10 hits and went on to beat the Charlotte Knights by a score of 6-2 in Durham, NC on Wednesday. The loss for the Knights was just the second in five games against the Bulls this season. The loss, however, was Charlotte seventh in eight road games this season.

The Knights scored two runs in the first inning, courtesy of a Steve Tolleson home run, but failed to score over the final eight innings of the game. Tolleson’s two-run home run came off of Durham starter J.D. Martin (1-1, 5.14), who notched his first win of the season.

Charlotte starter Simon Castro (0-2, 6.88) allowed six runs on seven hits over five innings and was charged with the loss. Castro walked three and struck-out five. The Charlotte bullpen was solid in the loss. Deunte Heath, who was optioned to Charlotte from Chicago earlier in the day, tossed two shutout innings. Brian Omogrosso allowed one hit over one scoreless inning.

Offensively for Durham, Vince Belnome went 3-4 with a run scored to lead the way. Tim Beckham chipped in with two hits and three RBIs.

Martin set down nine batters in-a-row after allowing the Tolleson home run in the first inning. Durham pitchers combined to strike-out 16 Charlotte batters.

Despite the loss, the Knights lead the season series with three wins in five games. The two teams will conclude their series from Durham on Thursday at 11:05 a.m. The Knights will send RHP Matt Zaleski (1-0, 3.27) to the hill, while Durham will go with RHP Jake Odorizzi (0-0, 3.00).
