Fort Mill, SC June 7, 2013 – Slugger Seth Loman, who was hitting .223 with eight home runs and 19 RBIs, was traded to the Baltimore organization on Friday, June 7 as announced by the White Sox. The Knights received RHP Michael Nix, who was signed by the Chicago White Sox out of the Independent Atlantic League. As of June 7, Charlotte’s active roster now sits at 24 players.
Loman started the 2013 season with the Knights after appearing in just four games with the club in 2012. The Bakersfield, CA native had an impressive 2012 campaign with Double-A Birmingham. He hit .276 with 16 home runs and 58 RBIs in 115 games and was the team’s Player of the Year. He led the Barons in hits (114), total bases (189), and slugging percentage (.458).
So far this season, Loman appeared in 39 games for the Knights and was second on the club in home runs, tied for third in runs scored (25), second in OBP (.390), and tied for fifth in RBIs (19). He was hit-by-a-pitch an International League high 15 times and was tied for the league lead in intentional walks with three.
At the time of his signing, Nix was pitching for the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League. In eight games this season with the Skeeters, the Alabama native was 5-1 with a 1.81 ERA (seven starts). He had a team-high 40 strikeouts
A product of Auburn University, Nix was in his second season with Sugar Land and fifth-straight in the Atlantic League.
Originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 11th round of the 2005 draft, Nix worked his way through the Atlanta system from 2005-2008. He made it as high as Triple-A and appeared in 11 games with the Richmond Braves in 2008. He went 1-1 with a 3.07 ERA (14.2 IP) that season for the R-Braves.
