Diaz allows one hit in seven innings
Kannapolis, NC June 30, 2013 – The Greenville Drive (7-4, 29-51) came into Sunday needing a win to clinch their second consecutive series victory. A mere two hours and three minutes later, they did exactly that, as they got a phenomenal pitching effort in a 3-0 victory over the Kannapolis Intimidators (5-6, 32-47).
Luis Diaz (3-4) baffled Kannapolis batters all game long. He fired seven outstanding innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while punching out nine to earn the victory. JB Wendelken worked the final two frames and struck out three to pick up his sixth save of the season.
The only offense the Drive needed came in the top of the second, as David Chester popped a solo homer to left field against Intimidators starter Euclides Leyer (2-10).
Drew Turocy led off the fourth inning with a double to left field, and an RBI single by Jayson Hernandez extended the lead to 2-0.
Turocy hit another leadoff double to lead off the ninth and advanced to third on Chester’s single. Hernandez later reached on an error that scored the third and final run.
Chester and Turocy collected two hits apiece for Greenville. Eric Grabe had both hits for the Intimidators on the afternoon.
From here, the Drive will head to Lexington to begin a three-game series with the Lexington Legends. Monday night’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:05. RHP Francellis Montas (1-6, 6.41) takes the mound for the Drive, while LHP Daniel Stumpf (5-6, 3.63) starts for the Legends.
