Feeling Groovy in Surf City

FULL SLATE OF NEW CLASSES AT SC PARKS & REC

SURF CITY, NC July 16, 2013 – The dog days of summer at Surf City Parks & Recreation? Never! A full slate of new classes and activities gives everyone something to shout about! Start by revisiting the 1960s with a Psychedelic Spin led by Steve Unger on Monday, July 22. Bring your love beads, tie-dyed shirts, and groovy vibes to this music fest of the ‘60s.  Only $5 for this special 75 minute Spin from 6 – 7:15 pm.  Also on the Spinning calendar, Jacob Carlsen will initiate a 8:30 am Spinning class on Saturdays beginning Saturday, August 3.

Summer yoga outdoors continues with a series of special events.  Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga will take place on Saturday, July 20, at On Shore Surf Shop (at The Fishing Village) with Jeaneal Guy. It is $35 or $20 if you bring your own paddleboard Full Moon Yoga is coming up the evening of Monday, July 22 with Amanda Brennan at 7:30 pm – base price $10 and /Wednesday Sunrise Yoga continues at 5:45 am through the end of July and at 6:15 am in August.  The base cost is $10 per session.   Finally, Steve Unger will lead Kayak Yoga on Saturday, August 10 at 10 am, also going out from On Shore..  It will be $40 for a two hour session but only $20 if you bring your own kayak. An additional charge of $5 is collected for Surf City Community Center guest memberships for all yoga classes if needed.

 

Walk To Run provides basic training for beginning runners through an eight week program starting August 26. One hour classes run by Wellness Coordinator Linda Carlsen will take place on Monday nights at 6:30 and Saturday morning at 8:30 am.  Through this program, participants will gain a better understanding of proper running techniques, along with building endurance, strength and confidence. The cost is only $80 for Community Center members, $95 for non-members.

 

Linda also continues her boot camp series on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 6 am through August 29. Drop-ins are welcome but reserving a spot is encouraged because the number of Spin bikes is limited.
