PINE KNOLL SHORES, NC June 11, 2014 – After you’ve seen the bygone beasts of Dinosaur Adventure at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, come inside for another peek at the prehistoric past with Way-back Wednesdays, themed around ancient animals.
Activities every Wednesday through Aug. 27 focus on living links to distant history. Enjoy a stingray feeding at 10 a.m. The Creature Connection live animal program at 11 a.m. and an animal encounter at 2 p.m. also highlight creatures — alligators and sea turtles, for example — with ties to early times. At 3:30 p.m., show off your acquaintance with long-ago creatures in an Aquarium jeopardy game.
The little ones enjoy crafts on dinosaurs, horseshoe crabs and other critters fitting the day’s theme. Watch for “dinosaur eggs” hidden around the Aquarium that reveal clues to solve the Prehistoric Puzzler, and other cool things to do.
Way-back Wednesdays run weekly through Aug. 6. Activities are free with admission or membership.
Dinosaur Adventure features 11 animatronic dinosaurs representing seven species of creatures from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods that move and call. Step out onto the Marsh Boardwalk for this time-travel experience, free with admission. But don’t wait too long – extinction returns Sept. 1.
