Carolina Mudcats Drop First Half Finale

Wilmington, DE June 15, 2014 — The Wilmington Blue Rocks plated three in the eighth to wrestle a 3-2 win from the Carolina Mudcats on Sunday afternoon at Frawley Stadium. The Mudcats finish the first half 29-38. The Blue Rocks (33-35) claimed seven of the 10 meetings in Delaware.

The comeback spoiled a terrific outing by D.J. Brown. The right-hander tossed a one-hit shutout across five innings for the Mudcats. He struck out four.

Kyle Bartsch (4-3) plucked the win in relief after holding the Mudcats scoreless for two-thirds of an inning. Michael Peoples (3-7) shouldered the loss. The right-hander allowed three runs on seven hits in three innings of work. Mark Peterson recorded the final two outs for his 13th save.

The Mudcats held serve for much of the afternoon, building a 2-0 lead. Todd Hankins cracked the seal in the fourth inning by drawing a leadoff walk. He stole second and moved to third on a groundout by Yhoxian Medina. Joe Sever brought him home on a groundout to short.

Medina plated James Roberts on a two-out roller to left in the eighth.

Wilmington went to work against Peoples in the last of the eighth. The Blue Rocks loaded the bases on consecutive hits by the bottom of the order. Mark Donato singled home Daniel Rockett and Bubba Starling tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left. Hunter Dozier knocked the game-winner in with a double down the left field line.

The Mudcats return home to host the Frederick Keys and Myrtle Beach Pelicans in a six-game homestand after the All-Star break. The series with the Keys begins on Thursday, July 19, with Thirsty Thursday presented by Natty Greene’s Brewing Company.
