Pleasure Island has another great week of FREE activities for your vacationing and leisure-time fulfillment. There is always something for everyone on our little slice of paradise.

This Week On Pleasure Island 6.22.14-6.29.14

CAROLINA BEACH, NC June 20, 2014 – Please plan on joining us for Thursday nights’ FREE concert on June 26th from 6:30 until 9:30 featuring L Shape Lot.

So what can you expect at a live L Shape Lot performance? Expect to hear music ranging from solid originals to classic country, to traditional bluegrass, to unique blends of all genres. Expect to dance even if you aren’t good at it. Expect knowledge of and respect for multiple musical genres and a passion for weaving them together. Expect to see four gentlemen with the utmost dedication to professionalism and showmanship having the time of their lives and doing their best to make sure that their audience does the same.

And don’t forget to stay for our fantastic Fireworks show at 9:00 pm (weather permitting). Come join your family and friends at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk for a night of FREE fun, music and fireworks.

The following night, we will be presenting our second of the FREE Summer Concert Series at the Ft. Fisher Air Force Recreation Area with the great blues artists – Polar Bear Blues Band.

Delivering their own brand of rhythm and blues, this four piece band remains a regional favorite after almost 30 years. Tasteful, yet powerful, the band still approaches every gig with the same gusto they did in the early years. The band’s name is credited to Stuart “Polar Bear” Shaw, guitarist, who has kept the band together through the years. Three of the four original members are still on board, and you will recognize the groove that only years of being together can bring.

In Carolina Beach, don’t forget about Family Night every Tuesday at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk from 6:30-8:30, followed by Cash BINGO at the Gazebo Stage from 7:00-9:00 on Wednesday evenings. Let’s not forget, the very popular Carolina Beach Farmer’s Market held every Saturday from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Carolina Beach Lake.

At Kure Beach’s new Oceanfront Park, they have a becvy of activity starting with Turtle Talks every Monday from 7:00-8:00 pm, followed by Tuesday’s Open Air Market from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm. On Wednesday, bring the young ones to Story Time By The Sea from 10:00-11:30 am.

To close out the week, this Sunday, June 29th, Boogie in the Park present BLP at the Ocean Front Park from 5:00-8:00 pm.

BLP has the perfect blend of entertainment and musicianship to get an audience moving and keep them moving: a song list crowded with favorites from contemporary dance music by Lady Gaga to classics from the disco era and 20 years of classic & modern rock, the best musicians the coast has to offer all in a band fronted by a beautiful and talented singer who nails it every night.   The band starts the fun and keeps it going til the last song!

And finally, the movie at the Carolina Beach Lake will be the hilarious Monsters U from Disney Studios. The showing will be at 8:45 pm at the Carolina Beach Lake at the corner of South Lake Park Boulevard and Atlanta Avenue.

Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer-and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sulliv… Morean, “Sulley”, a natural-born Scarer. The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

All movies are weather-dependent, so be sure to call ahead (910-458-8434), if the weather seems threatening to make sure the show will go on.

These films are free and open to the public. Popcorn, candy, soft drinks, cotton candy and other popular concessions are available at reasonable prices. This is a true summer time treat for adults and kids alike.

Please contact the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce if you have questions and don’t forget to check out our exciting Pleasure Island Calendar of Events.
