USO of NC, Jacksonville Boots on the Run 5K

Two teachers from Northern Ohio create an image as a tribute to the Firefighters, Police Officers, First Responders, and Military who have fought, lost their lives, and continue to fight for freedom. The image now hangs in the 9/11 Memorial and serves as the logo for the local USO of NC Jacksonville Center’s Boots on the Run 5K.

JACKSONVILLE, NC June 26, 2014 – Last year the USO of NC Jacksonville Center hosted its inaugural Boots on the Run 5K with a logo that pays tribute to our fire fighters, first responders, police and military. Thirteen years after its creation, that same logo now hangs in the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City.

Two teachers from Northern Ohio created the image, titled I’ll Take it From Here, where a fire fighter hands the American Flag to a Marine, as a way for their community to remember and to show how our fire fighters, police officers and military have joined together to fight the war on terrorism. That image now hangs in government buildings from military bases to the Pentagon, and will now hang prestigiously in the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

The USO of NC Jacksonville Center received permission to use the image last year for the inaugural run to illustrate the reason for supporting the Boots on the Run 5K. The USO of NC Jacksonville Center honors our nation’s heroes that protect us at home and abroad through the run.

On September 13, the 5K race begins at the USO of NC, Jacksonville center located at 9 Tallman Street, travels a scenic route through downtown Jacksonville, and finishes at the center. Pre-registration is $25 per person through the Boots on the Run Active Website; same-day registration begins at 7:00 a.m. for $30 per person. Opening ceremonies are at 8:30 a.m. Water stops and light refreshments are provided. Proceeds benefit the USO of NC, Jacksonville center and programs.
