CARY, NC August 8, 2014 – The Carolina RailHawks (2W-0T-3L, 6pts) will return to WakeMed Soccer Park to host the Tampa Bay Rowdies (2W-0T-3L, 6pts) on Saturday, August 9th. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m., and it will be broadcast live as the NASL match of the week on ESPN3 and NASLLive.com.
Scott Goodwin and the RailHawks defense had another big night on August 2nd and earned their second straight shutout of the NASL Fall Season. In the 38th minute, RailHawks midfielder Tiyi Shipalane scored his third goal of the season after dribbling his way through four Cosmos defenders before beating goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer with a low shot from 12 yards out.
The Tampa Bay Rowdies are coming off a 0-1 loss on the road against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Former Rowdies player, Fafa Picault scored the game-winning goal for the Strikers in the 72nd minute and the Rowdies were unable to equalize.
This will only be the 2nd time the RailHawks and Rowdies played each other since the fall of 2013. On May 31st the Carolina RailHawks defeated the Tampa Bay Rowdies 2-0 at WakeMed Soccer Park with goals by Mike Grella and Tiyi Shipalane.
RailHawks Acquire Danny Barrera in Trade
Four weeks into the 2014 NASL Fall Season, the Carolina RailHawks have agreed to terms with the San Antonio Scorpions to send Costa Rican midfielder Cesar Elizondo to San Antonio in exchange for Colombian midfielder Danny Barrera. Barrera, a Colombia-native appeared in 13 games this season for San Antonio where he scored a goal and generated two assists over 830 minutes played.
Gabe Latigue Signs with the RailHawks
The Carolina RailHawks announced the signing of former Elon University and Triangle Futbol Club (TFC) stand-out, Gabe Latigue, for the remaining of the 2014 Season. A member of the RailHawks U-23’s team that captured the 2011 USASA Men’s U-23 Region III and National Championships, Latigue returns to the Triangle after spending most of the 2013 season on loan to the Rochester Rhinos (USL Pro) from Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution.
