Down 1-0, Christopher Bostick laid down a bunt single and scored on a Preston Beck double to tie things up in the third.

Alex Monsalve put Carolina ahead with an RBI triple in the sixth to make it 2-1. Both runs scored off of starter Ryan Bores who tossed a quality start, going six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out a pair.

The Mudcats threatened to break the game open in the eighth. Sam Stafford handed out two walks and surrendered a bunt single to load the bases with one out in the inning. The Pelicans turned to Cody Buckel. Facing cleanup batting Jeremy Lucas, Buckel induced a 5-4-3 double play to get out of the jam with nothing across and the score still at 2-1.

The Birds tied it back up in the eighth without the benefit of a base hit. Luis Mendez and Chris Garia both worked walks against reliever Michael Peoples, and, with two outs, new pitcher Jacob Lee hit Beck to load the bases. Lee then uncorked a wild pitch with Royce Bolinger at the plate, allowing Mendez to score and tie the game at 2-2. Bolinger went on to strike out to end the inning.

Buckel kept the Mudcats hitless over his 3 2/3 innings of work, while the Pelicans were retired in order through the top of the 11th.

The game was suspended before the first pitch of the bottom of the 11th inning. LeVon Washington is due up for the Mudcats against Buckel.

Game two will be begin no earlier than 2:00 p.m.

The games can be heard live on WRNN AM 1450 ESPN Myrtle Beach, on the TuneIn Radio App, and via the MiLB First Pitch App, beginning with the Hampton Inn Pregame Show at 12:40 p.m.
