Trophy will be at Fluor Field in the evening after making stops with sponsors around town during the day
GREENVILLE, SC August 12, 2014 – In their role as the first full-season affiliate in the Boston Red Sox organization, the Greenville Drive play an important part in player development and helping players reach their goal of making the major leagues. The Red Sox reached the pinnacle of baseball by winning the World Series in 2013, and the Drive will be rewarded for their part in the Red Sox title by hosting the World Series trophy on Wednesday.
“We are extremely thrilled to be able to host Boston’s World Series trophy on Wednesday,” commented Drive General Manager Eric Jarinko. “The Red Sox World Series title last season was an incredible story, as they overcame tragedy and put together an incredible run which ended with another championship for the city of Boston. This is the second time we’ve hosted the World Series trophy in Greenville, as we also hosted it in 2008 following Boston’s 2007 World Series title, and we couldn’t be more excited to have the trophy return to both Greenville and Boston.”
The first stop for the trophy will be at the WYFF studios, Greenville’s NBC affiliate, for their morning show at 6:00 AM. Following that, Drive Co-Owner and Team President Craig Brown will join the trophy as it makes stops at each of ClearChannel Radio’s morning shows in Greenville, including The Charlie Munson Show on 92.5 WESC, Ellis and Bradley on Whistle 100.5, and Zac and Marne in the Morning on MY 102.5.
Brown and the trophy will also appear on “Your Carolina with Jack and Megan” on WSPA, Greenville’s CBS affiliate, at 9:30, and the trophy will also be featured on “Studio 62” with Jamarcus Gaston on Greenville’s CW affiliate after that.
In the afternoon, the trophy will appear at the offices and locations of some of the Drive’s key partners, including the Fluor offices at 12 PM, the Bradshaw Automotive Group showroom on Wade Hampton Boulevard in Greer at 2 PM, the Spinx located on East Washington Street at 3 PM, and the Erwin-Penland offices at 4 PM. Fans are invited to view the trophy at Bradshaw Automotive Group and Spinx, while the other locations are for private viewing.
Following the appearances at sponsorship locations, the trophy will make its way to Fluor Field, where it will be set up in the Verizon Power Alley beginning at 6:00 when the gates open prior to Wednesday’s 7:05 game against the Rome Braves. Fans will be able to take pictures with the trophy all night long.
“The Drive is an integral part of the Red Sox organization, and we can’t wait to share the trophy with everyone in Greenville for a day,” said Jarinko. “We encourage fans to stop by all game long on Wednesday and take a picture of Red Sox history while catching a glimpse of the Red Sox future on the field.”
