CHARLESTON, SC August 14, 2014 – The College of Charleston women’s soccer team is set to host Georgia State in a preseason friendly on Friday, Aug. 15 at 12 noon on the Patriots Point practice fields. The match will serve as the Cougars’ lone preseason tuneup before the regular season opener against Alabama State on Friday, Aug. 22.
“It’s been an interesting preseason so far,” said head coach Christian Michner, “as weather has been a bit of an issue here and has dictated that we make changes to the schedule and locations of some of our sessions. That in and of itself has had an impact on our preparation, but we couldn’t be more excited to play an exhibition game against Georgia State on Friday. The girls have done so well over the past week of training and approached each session with a great attitude and a commitment to getting better every time we step out on the field.
“Georgia State will be a great test for us if last year’s game is any indication of what tomorrow will be like. They’re very well coached and will definitely give us a good barometer of where we are at in terms of our development. We are very excited to step out there and see what it all looks like early in the season. We have a lot of players who can play in different positions and part of tomorrow will be finding the best combinations and to see who can help us where.”
As Michner alluded to, the teams concluded the 2013 preseason with a friendly in Atlanta, and the Cougars eked out a 3-2 victory after then-sophomore Nicole Koretsky netted the game winner in the 59th minute.
The 2014 women’s soccer team welcomes 13 newcomers to the roster as the Cougars prepare for their second season in the Colonial Athletic Conference.
The match, which is free to the public, will take place on the practice fields at Patriots Point adjacent to the tennis courts. For match updates and all information pertinent to women’s soccer, follow the Cougars on Twitter (@CofCWSoc).
