Rookie Davis bookends his 2014 campaign with road wins at Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA August 29, 2014 – Rookie Davis posted a career-high nine strikeouts in a quality start,leading the Charleston RiverDogs to a 6-1 victory against the Augusta GreenJacketson Friday evening at Lake Olmstead Stadium inSouth Atlantic Leagueaction. MichaelO’Neill led the RiverDogs offense with three hits while also scoring a run and driving inanother.The RiverDogs jumped up to 36-31 in the second half and 69-68 overall. TheGreenJackets fell to 27-40 and 61-74, respectively. Charleston evened the seasonseries at eight wins apiece and garnered a 1-0 edge in this four-game series.Davis wrapped up his third career quality start with a phenomenal string of strikeouts.He struck out eight of the final 12 batters that he faced, including four consecutivebatters in that stretch. This is also expected to be Davis’ final appearance of theseason, which started on April 3 with a victory on Opening Day at Augusta.Charleston scored six unanswered runs to win the contest.O’Neill scored the go-ahead run in thefifthinning and alsodrove in a runwith a singleduring thesixth.Davis (7-8) claimed the victory over Christian Jones (5-9) to open this four-game set.
