President of the Jacksonville Onslow Chamber of Commerce, Mona Padrick, Announces Retirement

Jacksonville, NC – On Wednesday, August 8, 2012, President of the Jacksonville Onslow Chamber of Commerce (JOCOC), Mona Padrick, announced her retirement effective September 30, 2012. Padrick totals 16 years at the chamber, first with the JobReady Program for five years, and then as president for the last 11 years. During this time Padrick oversaw the launch of Project CARE, the purchase of the 1099 Gum Branch Road property, the fulfillment of the Commerce Center concept (to include managing tourism), the Forum Onslow Series, the creation of the Minority Business Services Division and African-American Heritage Trail; the establishment of workforce programs like Trades Day; a stable staff, and over 800 members. Bentonville Battlefield Re-enactors Share a Civil War Solider’s Life

FOUR OAKS – The sounds of artillery and musket fire will again ring out at Bentonville Battlefield at the annual summer living history program on Saturday, Aug. 25.  Costumed living historians will demonstrate how soldiers made meals, maintained their weapons, equipment and uniforms, trained for battle, withstood the weather, and much more.  This free program will feature musket demonstrations at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., and artillery firings at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Visitors can visit a Civil War soldier’s camp and discover what role the enlisted man played in battle.  Re-enactors from the 27th North Carolina Troops will be on site to explain and answer questions about military life during the war.
