Norfolk Southern Heritage Locomotives: A Family Portrait, Gets Bigger As Event Approaches

Norfolk Southern Heritage Locomotives: A Family Portrait, Gets Bigger As Event Approaches

The Norfolk Southern Heritage Locomotives: A Family Portrait event at the N.C. Transportation Museum July 3 and 4 continues to grow to historic proportions.  The event celebrates Norfolk Southern Corporation’s 30th Anniversary, created by the merger of Southern Railway and Norfolk Western Railway.  These two companies, however, were the product of hundreds of predecessor railroads, some of which date back to the 1800’s. To honor that history, Norfolk Southern has painted 20 locomotives in the classic paint schemes of some of those predecessor railroads.  Some of these Heritage Locomotives have been traveling the country for months.  In other cases, these engines have just rolled off the line with a colorful new exterior. It was noted that gathering these Heritage units […]

It’s Electrifying! New Exhibit at the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex

It’s Electrifying! New Exhibit at the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex

Fayetteville, NC – On Saturday, July 14, the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex will open the exhibit It’s Electrifying! This traveling exhibit from the North Carolina Museum of History highlights how the distribution of electric power changed lives throughout the state in the early twentieth century. Electric power impacted the lives of North Carolinians during the first half of the 20th century. As more homes and communities got power, the demand for electric appliances grew, which manufacturers promised would make housewives’ chores easier. The exhibit illustrates this by contrasting pre-electric devices such as waffle irons, toasters, coffeepots, clocks, fans and irons with their electric-powered counterparts. “Today, we have become accustomed to rapidly changing technology and how it affects […]

It can be seen daily at Marshes Lighthouse located on the Manteo Waterfront through September 4, 2012. The Battle of Roanoke Island, fought on February 8, 1862, was part of the Burnside Expedition. Confederate and Union forces quickly realized the importance of regional expertise and need for local flat-bottomed workboats as the Civil War reached coastal North Carolina.  The Union used Roanoke Island as a base of operations to advance on coastal towns such as Plymouth, Elizabeth City, New Bern and Beaufort. The Union secured forts Hatteras and Clark in August, 1861, and used local knowledge to […]

Curb Records Wins Case Against Tim McGraw

Curb Records Wins Case Against Tim McGraw

Nashville, TN – The Court in Nashville has ruled in favor of Curb Records in a chapter of its lawsuit against Tim McGraw — in which, among other things, Curb Records contends that Tim is still under contract because he has not provided his Fifth Option Period Album. The Court granted Curb Records’ request to postpone the trial until it has the opportunity to take additional evidence surrounding Big Machine Records’ signing of Tim and when the 20 recordings Big Machine says it will release were made. In addition, the Court of Appeals will soon hear the appeal of the Nashville trial judge’s earlier ruling in which he found that, while it appeared Tim may have breached his Recording Agreement […]
