MUSEUM PRESENTS FREE BLUEGRASS EXHIBIT, PERFORMANCES AND MORE RALEIGH, NC August 6, 2014 – The N.C. Museum of History is jumping on the bluegrass bandwagon with an exhibit, performances and programs to celebrate Raleigh’s second year of hosting the International Bluegrass Music Association’s annual conference and Wide Open Bluegrass festival. Opening Friday, Aug. 29, the lobby exhibit Carolina Bluegrass: Breakdowns and Revivals will showcase a different instrument every five weeks. Each instrument was owned and played by a well-known bluegrass musician with ties to North Carolina. Onslow County Master Gardeners Offering a Public Hypertufa Class

JACKSONVILLE, NC August 6, 2014 – Onslow County Master Gardner volunteers are offering a hypertufa class September 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Onslow County Farmer’s Market, 4024 Richlands Highway. Hypertufa is an artificial stone material made of several different aggregates and mixed with portland cement. It is much lighter than cement but can still withstand harsh weather conditions. It is primarily used as garden art and is fairly easy and fun to make. Typical items made with hypertufa include planters, bowls, yard and garden decorations, fountains, pots and troughs. Coastal Federation, will discuss the population status, research and restoration efforts of oysters in North Carolina. ELIZABETH CITY, NC August 5, 2014 – The Museum of the Albemarle will be the site of Paint and Cookie: Under the Sea theme on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 3:30-5 p.m. The Museum and Serenity Studio Arts will join forces in creating a mixed-media canvas.   Elementary age students will use paint, paper, and found objects to create a mixed-media masterpiece on canvas.   The masterpieces created by participants during the workshop will be highlighted at Serenity Studio Arts on September 5, 2014 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. for 1st Friday Art Walk.
