Forbis with her New Orleans Jazz-inspired tuba performer with a glow in his rainbow-cloaked eyes. Harriett states that on a 2010 venture to the Delta City of New Orleans, she came across a unique and sizable performer at Café Du Monde that inspired this wonderfully kaleidescoped rainbow piece entitled “Jazz: The Soul of New Orleans”. WILMINGTON, NC Sept. 9, 2014 – Head Coach Adell Harris and the UNCW women’s basketball team will be playing at Trask Coliseum early and often during the upcoming 2014-15 season, including serving as hosts for a pair of holiday tournaments in late November and December. WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC Sept. 9. 2014 – The N.C. Coastal Federation is hosting the inaugural “Cruise for the Coast” to celebrate our estuaries and support the federation’s education programs. The three-hour cruise to Masonboro Island will depart from Carolina Beach on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m. aboard the 65-foot Winner Cruise Queen.   On the island, participants can walk the beach with federation staff and Richard Cecelski of Carolina Ocean Studies. Charlotte-Area Public Schools & Nonprofits Can Apply On Hornets.com   CHARLOTTE, NC Sept. 9, 2014 – The Charlotte Hornets and Lowe’s today announced they will award $50,000 for education-related projects in Mecklenburg County this fall as part of the longtime partners’ education grant program. For the second consecutive year, the grants will fund high-need projects at public schools and nonprofit education programs in the Charlotte area. Charlotte-area public schools (kindergarten through 12th grade) and all 501(c)(3) organizations that support public education in Mecklenburg County are eligible to apply for a grant at http://www.nba.com/hornets/2014-15-education-grant-application. Two second-half goals not enough to propel the RailHawks to victory OTTAWA, CANADA Sept. 7, 2014 – The Carolina RailHawks (3W-1T-6L, 10pts) were moments away from leaving Ottawa victorious on Sunday afternoon, but were forced to settle for a draw after a controversial stoppage time goal by Ottawa Fury FC (1W-3T-5L, 6pts). South Carolina Falls to 24th in the AP Poll and to 23rd in the Coaches Poll COLUMBIA, SC Sept. 7, 2014 – The University of South Carolina football team slipped a couple notches, but remained in both national polls released today. The Gamecocks (1-1) dropped three spots in the Associated Press poll to No. 24, while they fell two slots to No. 23 in the Amway Coaches’ poll. South Carolina was ranked 21st in both polls last week prior to a 33-23 win over East Carolina on Saturday night. - 80,000 Fought at Bentonville Battlefield 150 Years Ago March 21-22 – FOUR OAKS, NC Sept. 2, 2014 – Thousands of military living historians from across the country will descend on Bentonville Battlefield March 21-22, 2015, to become Confederate and Union soldiers in the last major battle reenactment in the Civil War’s 150th anniversary commemoration.
