Treyburn CC     Durham, NC Final Results GOLDSBORO, NC July 21, 2014 – Clarence Rose and Nicholas Adams of Goldsboro, NC blitzed Treyburn CC firing a round of eight under par 64 to win the 9th Carolinas Pro-Junior title by three shots.  Playing a modified alternate shot format, Rose and Adams had a bogey free round on the 6,775 yard Tom Fazio designed course.  Andrew Shuck and Hughes Edwards of Charlotte, NC finished in second place with a five under par 67.  Nicholas Poole and Rick Murphy of Greensboro shot three under par 69 to take third place. Duke Energy Awards $50, 000 for Educational Travel Grants & Free Teacher Workshops

RALEIGH, NC July 21, 2014 – The N.C. Museum of History announces that Duke Energy Education Travel Grants will be available this fall to help cover part of transportation costs to the museum for public schools in central and eastern North Carolina. The travel grants are made possible by a $50,000 investment from Duke Energy through the Duke Energy Foundation. In addition to transportation grants, Duke Energy will award 100 tuition-free, online professional development workshops for classroom teachers across North Carolina. The museum offers eight different online courses throughout the year, and North Carolina educators can earn up to 40 contact hours of continuing education credits for each class completed. Historic Edenton Archaeological Investigation Searching for First Courthouse Starts July 28, 2014

EDENTON, NC July 21, 2014 – Even in a town’s earliest days, there is a need for rules and justice. An archaeological investigation at the 1767 Chowan Courthouse Green July 28 to 31 will search for the town’s first courthouse, built in 1718. “We know there was a courthouse,” says Assistant State Archaeologist John Mintz. “We will try to determine the exact location.” Mintz will work with Shawn Patch from New South and Associates, to investigate the site. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) will be used to determine the best place to undertake the archaeological excavation and how deep to explore. The GPR readings will determine where the work is done.
