A Native American Culture Festival featuring traditional dance, music, story-telling, arts and crafts will bring a colorful and fresh vibe to the downtown area on Saturday, November 1. The event—similar to a Powwow—will be held at the Central Recreation Center at 205 East Main Street from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. PINE KNOLL SHORES, NC Sept. 30, 2014 – The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores invites potential conservation ambassadors — also known as volunteers — to test the waters on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 12. Drop by between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to talk to Aquarium staff and veteran volunteers about opportunities and benefits. Attendees also will be able to observe volunteers in action at the various stations around the Aquarium. Interpreters are needed for the two popular touch pools. At the Tidal Touch Pool, interpreters offer insight into the life cycles of horseshoe crabs, spider and hermit crabs, ocean snails and other invertebrates. PINE KNOLL SHORES, NC Sept. 27, 2014 – Bring your little ones to the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores for a special time together enjoying stories, crafts, songs, puppets and animal encounters. Toddler Time begins Oct. 1 and runs on Wednesdays from 9:30 – 10:20 a.m. The weekly activities in Clearwater Classroom focus on a different animal each week. October’s celebrities include box turtles, fish, octopuses and salamanders. Toddler Time runs weekly through March 25, except no program Nov. 26 and Dec. 24. Playing in the next to last group of the day, Jim Grainger, 58, of Charlotte, N.C. fired a tournament-low round of five-under 66 to win the 53rd Carolinas Senior Amateur by one stroke. CLEMSON, SC Sept. 26, 2014 – The Clemson men’s soccer team defeated Wake Forest 3-1 in front of 3,084 fans, including members of the 1984 National Championship team and their families, at Historic Riggs Field on Friday night. With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-4-0 and 2-1-0 in the ACC, while Wake falls to 4-4-0 and 1-2-0 in the conference.
