Sunset Beach Activist, Developer Win Pelican Awards

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC July 31, 2014 – A Sunset Beach activist and a Wilmington developer have won 2014 Pelican Awards from the N.C. Coastal Federation. They are among six of the award winners along the southeast N.C. coast. Sue Weddle advocates for effective coastal stormwater regulations and tough enforcement of coastal development rules. Developer Burrows Smith won an award for being a local champion and pioneer of low-impact development, a new approach to controlling stormwater pollution. WILMINGTON, NC July 31, 2014 – Wilmington Hammerheads FC is scheduled to take on the Richmond Kickers for their final match of a three-game series this season on Friday, August 1 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Legion Stadium. The Hammerheads and Kickers concluded their first meeting in June at City Stadium with a 2-2 draw after a pair of Hammerheads goals were collected late in the second half to equalize with a pair of goals from Richmond’s Matthew Delicâte scored in the first half. GREENSBORO, NC July 30, 2014 — National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa has announced that the NC Entrepreneurship Center (NCEC) at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is one of 886 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. The grant will support the Southern Entrepreneurship in the Arts (SEA) Conference to be held on Feb. 21, 2015.
