WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC July 31, 2014 – A Sunset Beach activist and a Wilmington developer have won 2014 Pelican Awards from the N.C. Coastal Federation. They are among six of the award winners along the southeast N.C. coast. Sue Weddle advocates for effective coastal stormwater regulations and tough enforcement of coastal development rules. Developer Burrows Smith won an award for being a local champion and pioneer of low-impact development, a new approach to controlling stormwater pollution. WILMINGTON, NC July 31, 2014 – Wilmington Hammerheads FC is scheduled to take on the Richmond Kickers for their final match of a three-game series this season on Friday, August 1 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Legion Stadium. The Hammerheads and Kickers concluded their first meeting in June at City Stadium with a 2-2 draw after a pair of Hammerheads goals were collected late in the second half to equalize with a pair of goals from Richmond’s Matthew Delicâte scored in the first half. Organized by Greenhill in Greensboro, N.C., the exhibition highlights 13 North Carolina artists who use graphite, ballpoint pen, conté crayon, ink, or charcoal to explore drawing in its relationship to thought processes.   In Line, Touch, Trace, artists may work with line to precisely render contours or as calligraphy on the drawing’s surface; apply touch to build tonal values or erase edges; and use traced marks to suggest elements of an imagined topography. Former East Carolina University standout Eric Brady of Cary fired a seven-under par 65 on the Landing course to take a one shot lead after the first round of the North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship.
