Marine debris is a problem that continues to grow.  Our waterways and oceans are constantly polluted with a wide variety of marine debris ranging from polystyrene trays and plastic bags to derelict fishing equipment and abandoned boats. Marine life, such as several Fish species, Whales, Sharks, Sea Turtles, and Birds have been known to ingest marine debris or become entangled in marine debris, which may lead to injury, intestinal blockage, and death.  Marine debris is an Eastern North Carolina concern not only because of the threats to our native wildlife, our ecosystem and our own health, but it also washes up on beaches and shorelines degrading the environment, and effecting our local economy and tourism. Durham Bulls extend affiliation with Tampa Bay Rays

Bulls, Rays to Continue Player Development Relationship Through 2018 DURHAM, NC Sept. 1, 2014 – During today’s regular season finale at the DBAP, the Durham Bulls announced the extension of their Player Development Contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, which will lengthen the Bulls’ affiliation with the Rays through the end of the 2018 season. The four-year contract comes on the heels of a four-year deal signed in August, 2009, that went in to effect after the 2010 season. In the last four years of the affiliation, the Bulls have captured three International League South Division titles and the 2013 Governors’ Cup Championship. Caswell Game Land Shooting Range Now Open to Public

YANCEYVILLE, NC August 22, 2014 — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission held a ribbon cutting today to celebrate the opening of the Caswell Shooting Range, located on the agency’s R. Wayne Bailey-Caswell Game Land in Yanceyville. Several Commission employees, along with Wildlife Commissioner Tom Berry, N.C. Rep. Bert Jones and Caswell County Commissioner Kenneth Travis, cut the ceremonial green ribbon, officially opening the only Commission-owned public shooting range in the northern Piedmont area. The public shooting range, which is free to use, has a 100-yard rifle range with five shooting lanes and a 25-yard pistol range with five shooting lanes. DURHAM, NC August 29, 2014 – Final results of the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship Sectional Qualifier hosted by Croasdaile Country Club on Wednesday, August 20, 2014.  Par 36-36—72 5743 yards (Rating: 73.3/137) Three past CGA champions punched their ticket to the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship that will take place at the Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, NJ on September 13-18.  Pat Brogden of Garner, NC earned medalist honors after firing an even par round of 72.  Other qualifiers include Angela Stewart of Greenville, NC and Kim Briele of New Bern, NC.  Briele earned her spot after the first playoff hole against Lynda Case of Ft.
