SALISBURY, NC July 30, 2014: What:  Food Lion will host its “Thriller on the Griller” fundraising events at area beach stores July 31 through August 4 to benefit Hope For The Warriors®. The events will begin Thursday in Jacksonville, N.C., followed by Friday in Swansboro, N.C. They will continue on Saturday in Emerald Isle, N.C., and on Sunday in Atlantic Beach, N.C. The final event will be held on Monday back in Jacksonville, N.C. Who: For a small donation, customers can purchase lunch donated by vendors as well as bid on silent auction items. Dr. Dino, a.k.a. Chris DeLorey and the education director at the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Fl., has been hunting fossils for educational use for 25 years. Jurassic Sand Sculpture Greets Aquarium Visitors PINE KNOLL SHORES, NC June 23, 2014 – When it comes to family fun at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, Sandy Feat artists think big. Really big. The famed sand sculptors molded 16 tons of sand into a unique depiction of dinosaurs. This “sand-sational” accomplishment is near the Aquarium entrance, and a tyrannosaurus rex photo op. Sandy Feat’s Ed Moore finished the creation in less than four days, with help from teammates Damian Hoffman and Gary Turner. The creation began by building plywood molds and moving the sand with a front-end loader. Shovels came into play next, followed by trowels and other smaller tools to shape the sand. PINE KNOLL SHORES, NC June 11, 2014 – Bring the flock for family fun at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores with Winging It – Birds in Flight. The ticketed program stars native raptors and water birds, some of which soar overhead in Big Rock Theater in response to commands. The show highlights the unique features of various owls, hawks, pelicans, vultures and other species. The audience enjoys extraordinary close encounters with these engaging creatures. PINE KNOLL SHORES, NC April 14, 2014 – The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores offers a personal touch to make the conservation connection at the annual Crystal Coast Earth Day Festival this Saturday. The Aquarium’s traveling touch tanks put live animals such as sea stars and horseshoe crabs at your fingertips during the event, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fort Macon State Park visitor center. PINE KNOLL SHORES, NC Mar. 12, 2014 – No fooling – it’s time to register for summer day camps at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.  Online registration opens at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1. Registrations are accepted online only; phone requests cannot be processed. Camps often fill quickly so be ready – go to the program registration page and create a profile in advance. Campers enjoy outdoor adventures, behind-the-scenes action and hands-on activities. All camps run from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The fee is $270 per camper – members pay $243. Aquarium admission changes effective March 1

ROANOKE ISLAND, NC Feb. 26, 2014 – Admission fees at the three North Carolina Aquariums will increase by a little less than $3 starting March 1.  Jennette’s Pier at Nags Head, also under the Aquariums Division, will institute a walk-on fee of $2 for sightseers; $1 for ages 12 and under.  The fee increases are part of an effort to offset shrinking state funding for the state aquarium facilities. “These increases will allow the aquariums and Jennette’s Pier to continue to fulfill our mission of conservation education, and meet our commitment of providing visitors with top-quality experiences,” said David Griffin, director of the Aquariums Division. “That includes everything from new animals, exhibits and activities to building maintenance.” The aquariums last […]
