NC Wildlife Commission Schedules Hunting Mentor Seminars

RALEIGH, NC August 19, 2014 —The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will host 11 hunting mentor seminars statewide in September to network with experienced hunters and share information about mentoring new hunters. The Wildlife Commission created the new “Hunting Mentor Seminars” to build on the popularity of free, skills-based hunting seminars that the Commission has been offering to the public since 2011. The Commission created the skill-based hunting seminars to address potential barriers to hunter recruitment and retention in North Carolina, according to Walter “Deet” James, the Commission’s hunting heritage biologist. Pechmann Fishing Education Center’s staff expects the transition to go smoothly when programming expands from hook-and-line workshops about fishing to hook-and-bullet workshops that cover both fishing and hunting. Encouraged by the popularity of hunting workshops in the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s headquarters in Raleigh, the Wildlife Commission is partnering with the Cape Fear River Branch chapter of the Quality Deer Management Association to offer a free, introductory workshop on deer hunting, Aug. 23, at the Pechmann Center in Fayetteville. Tee times will begin at 12:10pm off #1 tee on the Landing course. Course is unplayable and will not have any chance to dry out enough on Monday or Tuesday (original rain date) to play. FAYETTEVILLE NC July 30, 2014 – The Marlins held a 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth on Thursday against Fayetteville, but fell apart in the inning allowing two runs to score without recording an out as the Swampdogs took the game by a 5-4 score, handing Morehead City their fourth straight loss. Matt Tindall, who had been three for three in save opportunities, came on to attempt to secure the final three outs for Morehead City. Tindall allowed the leadoff man Sam Hall to reach by a single, then walked a batter before an error scored the tying run. WALLACE, NC July 30, 2014 – First round results of the 5th North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by River Landing (Landing) in Wallace, NC on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 (6909 yards, par 36-36—72, 73.4/133). Former East Carolina University standout Eric Brady of Cary fired a seven-under par 65 on the Landing course to take a one shot lead after the first round of the North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship. Brady carded six birdies and an eagle versus one bogey in his round.
