MOREHEAD CITY NC August 5, 2014 – The Marlins’ 2014 season wrapped up on Monday evening with a rainout in their scheduled game against the Wilmington Sharks. Morehead City finished up the season with a 19-31 record overall, but a 14-9 record in the second half, which was good for third place in the CPL East. Morehead City’s torrid second half was fueled by a stretch of games from June 30 to July 25 when they won 15 of 18 games and had two separate five-game winning streaks. MOREHEAD CITY, NC August 4, 2014 – Tonight’s season finale against the Wilmington Sharks has been canceled due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. The game will not be rescheduled. Monday’s rainout is the fourth straight, and the 10th overall for the Marlins this season (11 counting the Team USA game that was canceled on June 28). Anybody holding tickets to any of the canceled games will be given a full refund at the Marlins’ office, which is located at 5-8-D Evans Street. FAYETTEVILLE NC July 30, 2014 – The Marlins held a 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth on Thursday against Fayetteville, but fell apart in the inning allowing two runs to score without recording an out as the Swampdogs took the game by a 5-4 score, handing Morehead City their fourth straight loss. Matt Tindall, who had been three for three in save opportunities, came on to attempt to secure the final three outs for Morehead City. Tindall allowed the leadoff man Sam Hall to reach by a single, then walked a batter before an error scored the tying run. MOREHEAD CITY, NC July 28, 2014 – The Marlins lost their second straight game Sunday—a 19-8 defeat at the hands of the Columbia Blowfish in a game that featured five home runs, five hit by pitches, a position player pitching, and relief pitchers batting. The Blowfish scored nine times in the eighth inning off relievers Scott Edge and Michael Barber, which made it a 17-5 game at the time. In that inning, Julian Santos left the yard with a grand slam to right field, his second home run of the day. PETERSBURG, VA July 25, 2014 – Morehead City won its fifth straight game on Friday night against Petersburg when Tyler Thorne’s seven-inning effort and a nine-run outburst led by Trent Leimkuehler’s pinch-hit grand slam propelled them to a 9-1 victory over the Generals. Thorne had his best outing of the season on Friday, completing seven shutout innings and yielding just five hits to the Generals. MOREHEAD CITY, NC July 25, 2014 – Former Morehead City Marlins’ infielder Chris Taylor took care of two career milestones in one day on Thursday. The 23-year-old Taylor made his Major League debut for the Seattle Mariners in the first game of their series against the Baltimore Orioles, and also recorded his first major league hit, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame. He becomes the first Morehead City Marlin to make it to the Major Leagues. ASHEBORO, NC July 22, 2014 – A two-run ninth inning broke a seven-all tie Wednesday between the Marlins and Copperheads, propelling Morehead City to a 9-7 win—their third straight win and sixth in the last seven games.
