The game was tied at four runs apiece after seven innings, but Martinsville struck for two runs in the eighth and tacked on three more in the ninth to roll to their first victory in the last 12 games. An error, a base hit and an RBI groundout led to the two runs in the eighth off Jordan Knutson, who suffered his fifth loss of the season despite not allowing an earned run. Thorne had his best outing of the season on Friday, completing seven shutout innings and yielding just five hits to the Generals. He also struck eight batters, which is something he had not done this season in the CPL or in 19 games with Stanford this spring. “His slider was good,” said head coach Sam Carel said. “He really competed well with that slider, and it [helped him get] eight strikeouts.” Thorne was dominant early, allowing just […]

He becomes the first Morehead City Marlin to make it to the Major Leagues. Taylor played for the Marlins during their inaugural season in 2010, hitting .250 with seven RBI, nine stolen bases and a .396 on-base percentage in 25 games. “We’re excited that Chris got probably the best phone call in baseball and [got a chance] to play […]
