ASHEBORO, NC July 22, 2014 – A two-run ninth inning broke a seven-all tie Wednesday between the Marlins and Copperheads, propelling Morehead City to a 9-7 win—their third straight win and sixth in the last seven games. Asheboro reliever Brandon Warren had two outs in the top half of the eighth inning when he surrendered a double to Dalton Britt. That brought Jacob Bruce to the dish, who topped a ball to deep short that was thrown wide to first from Connor Justice, giving the Marlins an 8-7 lead. Close needed only five home runs in his last at bat to win, and he was able to hit those five before even recording an out in the championship round. MOREHEAD CITY, NC July 11, 2014 – A ten-run outburst in game one of the Marlins’ twin bill against Wilmington Thursday was enough to help them to a big 10-4 victory over the Sharks before eventually splitting the doubleheader after an 11-6 loss in game two. Andrew Amaro set the table the entire day for Morehead City, reaching base in nine out of nine plate appearances on the night. MOREHEAD CITY, NC June 22, 2014 – Vanderbilt infielder Tyler Campbell, who has signed to play with the Morehead City Marlins, delivered a walk-off single on Saturday night to lift the Commodores over the Texas Longhorns and propel them into the College World Series Championship. With the bases loaded and two men out in the tenth inning, Campbell topped a grounder just beyond the pitcher’s mound towards short, and was able to beat the throw to first, driving home the run and giving Vanderbilt the 4-3 win.
