Fiery Revolutionary War Battle Re-enactment at House in the Horseshoe

SANFORD - See one of America’s most authentic Revolutionary War re-enactments on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 4-5, at the House in the Horseshoe State Historic Site.  The event was chosen as one of America’s Top 20 events for August in the southeastern U.S. by the Southeast Tourism Society.  While the event is free, donations are gratefully accepted. The battle re-enactment at 4 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday will recreate the events of July 29, 1781, when British loyalist Col. David Fanning attacked the home of patriot Revolutionary Col. Philip Alston.  Visitors can see large bullet holes from the battle that marks the house to this day. UNCG, COA offer college courses through high school

As colleges require advanced classes for students to participate in, many students exceed expectations by taking college level classes to gain admittance. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro allows students to take college level classes while they are still in high school. Students tend to take Advanced Placement classes to help prepare themselves for college and also to earn college credits while still in high school. “Two years ago we had a student receive 15 college credits by taking these classes,” distance learning facilitator Gloria Meads said.
