Charlotte Knights Alumni Report: Lastings Milledge

Charlotte, NC – Lastings Milledge spent the 2011 season with the Charlotte Knights. The former New York Mets first-round pick (12th overall selection of the 2003 draft) hit .295 with 12 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 27 stolen bases for the Knights in 444 at-bats last season. While he hit 14 home runs for the Washington Nationals in 2008 and combined to hit 33 home runs with 167 RBIs over parts of six Major League seasons, Milledge spent most of his professional career in the Minors. The Florida native spent parts of five seasons in Triple-A with Norfolk (2006), New Orleans (2007), Columbus (2008), Indianapolis/Syracuse (2009), and Charlotte (2011). WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Season tickets for the upcoming 2012-13 UNCW men’s basketball season are available now to the general public. Coach Buzz Peterson’s club plays 15 home games, including an exhibition contest against in-state foe North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday, Nov. 3, and the regular season opener with two-time Big South Conference champion UNC Asheville on Sunday, Nov. 11. The Seahawks will also host an in-season tournament – the Nations of Coaches Classic. Wofford and Hampton face off on Friday, Nov. 23, followed by UNCW Vs. Wofford on Saturday, Nov. 24, and UNCW Vs. Volunteers Needed for Big Sweep 2012

New Hanover County – Big Sweep, the annual cleanup of beaches and waterways will be held Saturday, Sept. 29 at more than a dozen pre-selected sites throughout New Hanover County. Statewide, since the massive anti-litter program began in 1987, 300,000 volunteers have collected over 10 million tons of litter from rivers, creeks, sounds and beaches. This year, coordinators have targeted 13 areas for cleanup. Volunteers are now being sought to pitch in to help clean more than 40 miles of waterways in New Hanover County – in just one morning. Clinics will be on September 25 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. and September 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Kure Beach Town Hall (Council Chambers) located at 117 Settlers Lane in Kure Beach.
