Wildlife Commission Hosts National Hunting and Fishing Day Events

RALEIGH,N.C. (Sept. 7, 2012) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day by hosting or supporting eight family-oriented outdoor events across the state on Sept. 22. Through interactive activities and demonstrations, participants can connect with nature and test their outdoor skills. Some of the activities, which vary for eachevent, include: Fishing (with bait and tackle provided), Shooting a bow and arrow and pellet guns with a qualified instructor, Seeing live animals, such as reptiles, amphibians and raptors, Outdoor cooking over a fire — and tasting the results, and Learning about North Carolina’s hunting heritage. WILMINGTON, North Carolina – East Carolina swept the men ‘s and women’s titles the 23rd Seahawk Invitational Cross Country race late Friday on the recreational fields at UNCW. Individually, ECU’s Antonio Palmer edged Guilford’s Andris Goncarovs to win the men’s race with a 15:42 time over the flat 5K course. On the women’s side, ECU’s Stacey Gonzalez was the first of five straight Pirates to cross the finish line, clocking an 18:17. The men’s opener was delayed one hour due to lightning in the area and the runners took the course following a brief warm-up period.
